Bristol Rovers 2 Cheltenham Town 0

The Gas play League One Cheltenham Town in the first group stage of the Football League Trophy, in what is a welcome break from the troubling league campaign and an chance for Joey Barton to try some different players and provide additional game time for the squad.

This competition has been devalued over recent years in what should be a good opportunity for The Gas to go on a cup run.

The other opponents in this group stage are Exeter City and Chelsea U21.

A positive first half saw The Gas create a number of good chances, with good sustained pressure, but both sides go in level at half time.

Sam Nicholson scored a well deserved goal early in the second half, the Rovers pressure providing an end result. Harvey Saunders doubled the lead on 70 minutes.

A deserved and much welcomed victory for The Gas. Hopefully we can build on this and take confidence into Saturday. It is always good to win, and wins build confidence and momentum.
